I am a painter working at the intersection of urban and natural landscapes, exploring moments of movement, pause, and quiet transition. My work is less about depicting specific places and more about capturing how it feels to move through space: how light shifts, how figures pass through, and how time seems to slow in ordinary, fleeting moments.
In my recent work, streets, paths, bridges, and tree-lined walkways become stages for reflection. Figures often appear walking toward or away from view, their identities intentionally open. Shadows stretch, light gathers, and weather subtly alters the atmosphere. These scenes invite the viewer to step into the space emotionally rather than observe it from a distance.
I work primarily in mixed media. This layered process allows me to build depth while preserving spontaneity. Gesture, texture, and color guide each piece, and I allow the work to evolve intuitively rather than toward a fixed outcome. The result is a balance between structure and softness, between control and release.
My approach to painting has been shaped by both landscape and lived experience. Growing up surrounded by nature instilled an early sensitivity to rhythm, light, and stillness. Later, living with an inherited nerve tremor changed the way I work physically. Rather than resisting this, I embraced it as part of the process. The slight unpredictability of my mark-making has become a collaborator, encouraging looseness and presence over precision.
Whether set in a city street or a quiet landscape, each painting is an invitation to pause. I am drawn to moments when nothing dramatic is happening: when a person is simply walking, waiting, or resting within a larger environment. These in-between moments are where I find meaning, memory, and emotional resonance.
Alongside my painting practice I work in hand-built stoneware ceramics. My ceramic work encompasses two series: Skin, wall sculptures exploring surface and texture, and Witness, large-scale freestanding sculptural columns standing between three and five feet tall. All pieces are built entirely by hand and fired in my studio kiln in Potomac, Maryland.
