Unbothered Embers

Thistles burn orange against a deep field of teal and blue, their spiked forms glowing like embers in cooling ash. Unbothered Embers is the most primal work in the Selvage series: ancient-feeling, intense, and completely indifferent to being looked at. The under-layer swirls with geological depth, layered and complex, as though the plants have pushed through something much older than soil. There is no softness here, no apology. These thistles have always been here and will remain long after. This is a painting about the kind of beauty that doesn't need your permission.
