After The First Rain
In "After The First Rain," I portray a city moment softened by rainfall, where people move across the scene beneath open umbrellas. The rain is present but gentle, less about disruption and more about renewal, the kind of rain that settles dust, deepens color, and changes the way a city breathes.
The figures walk through the space without urgency, their umbrellas creating small, private worlds within the shared environment. I am drawn to how rain alters behavior: how people draw closer to themselves, how movement becomes more deliberate, and how even a busy city feels briefly quieter. Faces are secondary here; what matters is the collective rhythm of people navigating the moment together, each absorbed in their own inner weather.
Rain creates reflections, soft edges, and a sense of atmosphere that allows light to linger differently than it does on dry ground. In this painting, I wanted the rain to act as a unifying veil; blurring boundaries between figures and surroundings, between isolation and connection. The city becomes less rigid, more fluid, as if the rain has momentarily loosened its structure.
After The First Rain is about that subtle shift that follows release. It speaks to moments just after something has passed; when the air feels clearer, the world feels washed, and movement continues with a quiet sense of possibility. It is not about the storm itself, but about what remains once it has begun to fade.
